Timothy D. Girard, MD, MSCI
Timothy D. Girard, MD, MSCI is an Associate Professor of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and investigator in the Clinical Research, Investigation, and Systems Modeling of Acute illness (CRISMA) Center. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from Baylor University and earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He then completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Virginia and a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Girard is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine. His recent research efforts include randomized clinical trials evaluating interventions in the ICU, such as sedation and ventilator weaning protocols and antipsychotics for the treatment of delirium, and a multicenter prospective cohort study of long-term cognitive impairment in survivors of critical illness. His research interests include geriatric critical care, cognitive impairment after critical illness, delirium, and sedation in the ICU. He is currently funded by National Institute on Aging.
